I bought it today to keep the others one from picking on him, and it seems to have fungus. I dont even know what kind it is. It favors a green terror. My question is what do I treat fungus with because it is advanced pretty far. The fish was glad to get something to eat, but it will only stay in one place not much activity at all from it. I added some salt but I really dont know how much to use because a 55 gallon tank is all I have for a hospital tank and it is costing me double for medicine.

Fungus is usually a bacterial infection called Columnaries. Treat it by using antibiotics, Kanacyn (Kanamyacin) is one of the best for this. You can also use tetracycline or maracyn, both with Maracyn 2. Salt will also help, if the fish can tollerate it. Turn down the temperature in the tank to 75, because columnaries thrives in warm water.

You can read this article for more info.

Thanks I bought some maryoxy made by mardell. The same makers of maracyn so hopefully this will work. If it doesnt I can say I at least tried... :D

Most fish from walmart don't make it. I found a poor half dead betta there once, and tried to save him, and I had the fungus half cured but then he died...

dont buy fish from walmart buddy. They are not perfessional at selling fish. And fish there r lag of care and water change. I my self never buy a single fish from wal mart even they sell at a lower prize then my LFS. But my LFS fish have no disease or sign of illness when I take them home.

I usually never buy any fish at all from walmart but when I see other fish trying to eat them alive it just does something to me. Oh and by the way it died..

Fish at walmart Im sad to say are casualties that are going to happen. Despite the tugging at our strings of dying fish in walmart there is notihng we can do to save them. The best thing to do is never buy anything fish related from walmart. Also we must get the word out to others.

Whenever someone comes to my store who has bought a fish from walmart the first sentence out of their mouth is "I bought a fish from walmart." and they need go no further because I can already tell they do not know the care requirements and most of the time they don't even know the name of the fish. And whenever a sentence starts with "I bought a fish from walmart" I already know the fish is dying. So far I haven't been wrong.

I'm sure many of the people out there won't agree with this but I personally NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM WALMART no matter what it is or how cheap it is. I don't buy fish, pet supplies, clothes, car batteries, portable phones, cabinets. I don't care what it is or how cheap I will never buy anything from an evil corporation that kills animals and exploits and opresses the labor pool as well as committing countlesss legal violations.

I buy some fish at wall-mart you just have to know what to look for thier also cheeper there

:rip: little fishy :-( and never ever buy fish from wal mart those ppl dont know how to take care fish.

Here is what I have gathered. Angel Lady is in no way a newbie. She has been around here for well over a year, leads the pet of the month compitition, and has accumulated well over 2000 posts. She bougth this fish from Walmart because she saw the poor guy getting builled, and didn't have it in her heart to walk away. He was brought home by her, put into a hospital tank, and given the appropriate meds.

She knew he was sick when she bought him!!!!

Everyone - Please stop bashing Angel over trying to save a fish!!!! She knows Walmart's track record, but her HEART took pitty on the fish.

Frightening thought here.
I did my main shop this week in Asdas. They now have on their bags 'part of the Walmart family'.
Happily they don't sell any livestock of any kind but first thing I thought was 'oh no.'
I'm sad the fish died. It is hard to turn away when you see something like that. My gut can turn just seeing a fish hanging at the surface to breathe.
Hugs,
P.
