Why should I tell you?
Im a bit worried about my male platy who hides behnd wood most of the time.
He still comes out to eat but if im near the tank he hides. He VERY rarely comes out without me having to put my hand at the back of the tank to scare him out.
All water params are at zero
Ph is 8
P.S he used to hide like this when I got him aswell but back then he only used to
do it at night
hes only about 8 months old.
I have never seen his fins clamped ever. When he hides his fins are all up all the time

One of my platys hides he was getting bullied, so moved him to another tank, what other fish do you have in the tank.

my female is showing the same signs!!!! i noticed she was being bullied by the male coral red platy [witnessed it] even tho i have 1 male and 2 females..... very over protective of the sunset female!!!!

Werid fish!!!

Is it eating????

Maybe u could add more if space allows?? always have more females than males.

In your case maybe the females are protecting the fry???

If possible move him to another tank?? he be less stressed :D

He isnt stressed because when he comes out he hangs around with the females
and when I turn on the tank light he chases them!!
I doubt it if the females are protecting the fry, they used to try and eat them!! :crp

This is my favorite trick for timid swordtails, usually works like a charm, but I've never tried it with a platy (cause I don't have any).

"Try feeding them some of the freeze dried tubifex worms that come in little compressed cubes. I stand very still and hold the cube at the surface of the water while it gets soaked and starts coming apart. After a couple of times of doing this even my non-homebred swordtails (who were very shy to begin with) will come over and try to rip it out of my fingers. Now they all come over immediatley when they see me. "

You said that he comes out to eat so this might help him get used to you again.

Unfortunately, it didnt work :(
He hid in a cave after a few attempts.
I stood really still. tried different angles.
I thought he didnt like the tubifex so I tried it with everything else.
Flake, pellet, Live worms, peas and even banana.
:( Im kinda worried. Mabye I could get him another male friend or something........

if theres only a few fish in a big tank then he could be uneasy about not having many fish around. what size of tank is it and are you planning on any more fish?
