Hey,

Do cories lay eggs?!?! :/ My ten gallon has 1 betta, 2 albino cories and 1 snail in it - and some eggs (i think!!) have appeared overnight!!!

Obviously i wasnt planning on breeding anything...lol So um... What do i do if they are eggs?! Will the betta eat them!? Or should i take them out or something?! :S

Or is it probably something else....? lol

If there are see-through balls on the glass...then they probably are eggs...from the cories ;) Congrats if they are.

If you want them to live you would need to isolate them either by 1. removing all fish (not a good option) or 2 with a spoon some object like that gently remove them and put them into another aquarium. IMO that's what I do. Many people have their own methods but im just sharing mine.

If you don't want any cory fry then let the eggs sit there...they are a nutritious snack and all the fish will eat them including the cories...once the cories have spawned they will so again, so if you would like to try cory breeding later on it wont be a problem ;)

Thanks for the reply! :)

I managed to get one really bad picture (light bulb broke  lol ) From what you said i think they must be cory eggs... There are only a few left on the filter - i wouldnt be suprised if my betta has eaten some!!

As i thought both of my cories were male (thats what the guy at the lfs said  ) i really wasn't expecting eggs!!!! I think i'll let this lot just get eaten as i probably wouldnt have the time to look after ickle baby cories... and getting rid of them would be difficult too id imagine...

Maybe ill try with any more i get though!! Could be fun!! :D

Maybe the lfs owner doesn't know much  or maybe...i don't know lol but i presume that they are male/female. They seem liek cory eggs.

Lol! I think the lfs guy was just stupid! :D

I cant think my betta or snail would be laying eggs... -_- lol

The eggs aren't being eaten though! If any do survive ill just put them in my other tank! I could do with a couple more! :D

Jess

If you want a few to survive remove the eggs...now i guess otherwise they will get eaten

Ill take a few out and see if i can get them to like... live :/ lol

How long does it take? There's nothing on here about breeding cories... Or if there is i cant find it... :/

Sorry for all the questions!! wasn't expecting babies!!! :hyper:

not to ruin the mood or anything

but it could be snail eggs, because snails can reproduce even if there is one

but congrats anyways

You would need more than a few....because most likely a few wont survive either the eggs will rot...or the babies wont survive. I reckon you should wait untill they spawn again...hsouldn't take to long. I just wrote a quick breeding guilde in catfish section called peper cories...hang on ill post link

Mingin.....

I certainly dont want snail eggs!! Dirty things!! lol

I think i will leave them in instead... ive just got rid of a whole load of baby snails that i got in some plants!!!

Oh, and thanks for the link Rybka! :) Reading now!

Congratulations mama Jess!

Have a look at these threads

Here

Here

And I believe that Inchworm is the expert in breeding Corys, try pming her

Arfie

Thanks Arfie :)

I have done none of the things those threads say to do... Except the tank has no heater so it stays pretty cool (about 24 celcius) anyway!!

If i do get lots of ickle baby cories swimming away i shall probably start frantically PMing Inchworm!! :D But they will probably turn out to be snail eggs...
