Okay, here is the story...My and my ex broke up for about six months while we were trying to "work on things." While we were split, he started dating another girl who moved her 29 gallon tank into the house. Well, they've been broken up for about three months and she has made no attempt to come and collect her tank....So I am going to "borrow" in from her and want to make it into a chichlid tank if possible. The only thing is, I really have no idea where to start and no idea what fish would be best or what fish would be compatible. All I do know is that the fish that I want will get to big to house in a 29 gallon tank. Any help anyone has would be greatly appriciated. :)

Are you interested in African cichlids? If not, you may get better responses in the Tropical Chit Chat section. ;)

In that case, which Africans are you interested in? In that sized tank, you are severely restricted in mbuna species, but there are also some Lake Tang shell or rock dwellers which could work out as well.

You could also try a small group of Yellow Labs, one of the shell dwellers (e.g. N Multies or N Ocelatus) or rock dwellers (smaller Juldochromis species). If you like N Brichardi, you could look into that as well.
