Hi, I have a brackish tank that Im using the API master kit to test with. All my google searches say anything below 1.010 is ok for the freshwater test kit. I'm at 1.008 and my results are shocking. This tank is absolutely beautiful, and taken care of. I do weekly water changes and feed ONLY what my fish can consume, NOTHING reaches the bottom of the tank. For reference I have 1 Map turtle, 1 Red Claw crab, 1 Flounder, 3 Bumblebee Gobies, and approx. 20 Mosquito fish. The tank is 55g with pool filter sand as the substrate and locally found rock which was boiled and soaked for the hardscape. Temperature is kept at 75 at night, and 80 during the day. Now here is what is confusing me, I test regularly and always get horrid results no matter how often I do water changes. Tonight my Ammonia read 4.0ppm, Nitrites read 5.0+ my scale tops at 5.0 but it was easily twice as dark as the highest reading. Nitrate read 30ppm. All my fish are happy and healthy and have been since day 1. This tank is well cycled as well. I also used the test kit on my 4g planted tank and received accurate results so I know the kit is not bad. There is NO way my nitrite is at 5+, all my fish would be dead. I'm very confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
