Hi. I'm new to this aquarium lark.
I have built my own fish tank (working with glass as my job) it is 700x450x450 making it about 141 litres.
I have brought all the things needed IE: water filter heater gravel blah blah blah.
I set the heater to 25 letting that heat up.
Then I added tetra aqua safe and the one with the bacteria not too sure of the name.
This was 24hrs ago I woke up this morning and it is now cloudy??
Is this normal or should I worry?

Ps I haven't added any fish yet

I would be very grateful if I could get some help on this matter
Many thanks
Josh

Hi there,

I do not know about this new chemicals, but in the old days we had the tank ranning empaty for two or three weeks and then adding gradually the fish. On the other hand if you know someone that keep tropicalfish ask him for some water from hi/her tank and the you will be able to use the tank stright way.

I am afraid, I am not able to tell you about the reacion that you had in your tank, but to be safe I would not add fish there for the moment

To cycle a tank, you need an ammonia source, so running it for 2-3 weeks with nothing, does not really cycle a tank. Additionally, the beneficial bacteria does not live in the water column. The best is to get filter sponges/media from a long established tank and put them into the filter.

Alternatively, the best thing to do to avoid fish deaths is to do fishless cycle. There is info how to do it here:
