My pregnany Molly is frantically swimming around my tank up and down the glass. The other fish are not acting different at all. I just did my water change, but she was acting that way before I did the water change. I know Tetra are more sensitive when comes to water conditions, and they are not acting different, and neither are the other Molly's. So what is going on!? I'm worried.

Just how pregnant is she? This can be a sign the fry are about to be born. If she's far along then I wouldn't worry about this behavior. If she's not far along then we can examine what else might be the cause.

I was thinking that she is at day 26, but that's a guess. When I got her from the LFS she was pregnant. I have the lights on 8 hours a day. When I turned them off she calmed down a bit, but this is new to me because she has never acted this way before with the lights.

26 days is too soon but I still think it might be related to the pregnancy. It was common for my livebearers to get aggitated and stressed during pregnancy. I found that providing extra hiding places for them helped and that putting some floating plant or fake floating plant also helped. Also keep an eye on tank mates, especially the male, to see if she's being bothered. Male to female ratio is important.

Okay well she had her fry. I should have gone with my better instinct. I was sure she was ready. And she was. The fry were large and very healthy. I have a mix of gold dust and black. Very cute babies.

There you have it! I knew it sounded like birthing behavior.
