Why not just return the fish to a fish shop. So you AND the fish can be stress free???

I'm afraid I rather give up on this one.

Don't buy fish you can't house properly. Don't continue to house them badly when you've been given advice and help.

A pangasius in a 5 gallon... 2" or not, the mind boggles what you intend to do with this fish one day. You know most fish do most of their growing when they're young?

Sigh i cant be bothered to argue anymore. i am getting a 40gallon soon so hopefully he'll be ok in that for the mean time.

Whether you can or can't be bothered to argue anymore is no matter. Why buy a fish you cannot house? 40gallon? A fish that grows up to 4ft will not be happy in a 40g.
Did you research this or any other fish you own before buying them?

So why did you buy it in the first place knowing its size??

Fish become stunted when put into a tank thats not ideal,even if you say you will eventually rehome it in a 40 gal,thats still not big enough for it!

So exactly what size aquarium are you going to buy to house this fully grown fish, which can grow 'up to 4 feet in the wild'?

By the sounds of it, this fish will be going through 4+ tanks before MAYBE, just MAYBE getting in a tank that it will fit in? Why not save yourself issues here by re-homeing the fish or just buying a tank it needs next, rather than letting it go through many many tanks.

I just can't get my head round it .

I'm sorry to say but its clear you haven't or you wouldn't be in this situation with a fish that's extremely too big for your tank. If you cannot house the fish your looking to buy for life in a tank you've already got then don't buy it.

strange attitude. i think they are trying to explain to you it needs to be in a very large tank from day dot so it grows correctly and can be healthy and happy. you can do it your way sure but sounds like you are struggling. so do you have nothing to divide the tank until you can get it its proper size home?

iridescent sharks grow to around 1 foot averagely in aquarium 4 feet in the wild not aquarium 125 gallons plus for full sized specimens 40cm+ 40 gallons will do for the mean time he is only 2" long.
