Hey there Belly and welcome to our friendly piece of the net. I'm going to give you a article to read and it will answer your questions and AFTER reading it if you still have questions or problems let us know and we will love to help. Rose

Welcome to the board Belly :D - the article Rose has posted says it all.

But if you have any questions after reading it do ask away - The only stupid question is the question you don't ask!

Welcome Belly, hope you enjoy the site and become as interested in fish as the rest of us. You are embarking on a journey that requires patience at the start.....so go slow and everything will be great. :)

Add a pouch filled with Seachem Purigen in your filter. The water will clear overnight. This magical synthetic filter material is far superior to carbon and is ideal for establishing new tanks if you are in a hurry. Seachem's claims that Purigen "Rapidly reduces Nitrogenous wastes-Polishes better than a Diatom filter -Has no impact on trace elements" are all true AND unlike inferior carbon filter material, Purigen will last up to six monts and can be regenerated. Using Purigen exclusively without carbon in tanks that are not properlymaintained and require strong filtration will save you money and fish.

Michael, interesting media. Seachem has a good rep for quality products also. I might have to try some of it, as soon as I can find some. Lfs is lacking in my area..... :(

Hello belly,
Welcome to the site, other than where do you come from there's not a lot more to say. All my colleagues have said what I was going to say. You haven't met the bosses yet, but like the perverbal bad penny I'm sure they'll turn up and welcome you. lol.
I hope you enjoy this site as we all do and come back and join us in this madhouse often.

Hi and welcome to the board. I'm boss 1 (or2), Boss 2 (or1) is moving home so cant say hi.
If you ever have problems we your new hobby just pop in.

Micheal, Better than a diatom. I like the sound of that. I'll go find some more info ;)

When I went into my pet store here and asked for diatom powder, the girl there give me one of those blank looks.

GL I think only specialists fish stores, either on line ,mail order or a visit will deal with diatom powder. It not asked for regurarly because its expensive and not a lot of people know what its for.

Heck, I walked into a lfs down state and asked them. The guy walked over to the wall and pulled down a bag of it. 3.95 :D

An other product by Seachem is Prime. It helps newly set up tanks deal with Ammonia and Nitrite spikes. Only place that stocks it in the UK seems to be Shirleys Aquatics but it is widly available in the USA. The prob with this stuff is it does work but as i only do fishless cycles (so should all begginers, less stressfull to us mere mortals) i've not needed it.
