You need to check you water levels, sounds like you may have a nitrite spike... I would do at least a 50% water change and test daily untill water returns to normal levels.

What test kit are you using. Gasping can be bad water quality, toxins, ph shock, parasites, bacterial, lack of aeration, stress.

I have observed many threads and many people mention that before so make sure you have plenty of motion /agitation on the surface
