I have been out all day,

Just got home and my Guppies are acting really strange...

Also They seem really Blue? as in the colour has changed slightly!

Any reason for this?

I am performing a water test right this second!

Will post the results very soon!

:( I'm worried

Results are in.

NitrIte: 1.0ppm
NitrAte: 20ppm
Ammonia: 0ppm
PH: 7.4

Right now I have calmed down and tested the water I would like to give details on what just happened.

I came in, I had left the tanks light off all day because I wasn't sure if I was staying out.
I also fed the fish before I went out.

Anyway, I came home and Couln't see the fish anywhere, So i turned the tanks light on and turned of the air pump so I could see the tank from above...
My male guppy decided to greet me and I as he came out I noticed he has became more 'blue' I also noticed that his pupils have became a tad larger (not sure if this is because the light was off...)
But all of a sudden he stopped moving, I placed a finger in to nudge him and he started to swim again... but he then just stopped and gradually let himself fall to the bottom of my tank.
Then this is when my female came and greeted me... she also has a blue tint to her body and rather large pupils.

She seemed more lively than my male however normally when I put my finger in the water they come racing towards it to greet me (or think its feeding time) however this did not happen, they were just ignoring it...

They both seem lively now swimming around the tank. However I am scared that they both are going to die by the morning. I'm scared :(
And I have no idea what to do!

I have been adding water treatment to my tank. would this have any effect?

Water changes consist of using 'Stress Coat+' Conditioner.
In the last 48 hours I have also added 1 teaspoon of AmQuel+ (Half a teaspoon each 24 hours)
I also have been putting in Melafix every 24 hours to help my males fin grow.

Is any of this effect the fish?

Sorry to write so much.

I hope someone can help!

Here is a picture of both of them now...

try stopping the meds and stuff and do a 50% water change and just observe them for 24h and see if they perk up and that may give you an answer to if the meds are effecting them or not

have you got carbon in your filter if so take that out when doing meds as they leech back into the tank im sure you know this mate

i see now they arent gasping lol

Right this is really weird. But they seem happy and back to normal again?! The male even more so...?

What on earth is going on?

But yes, I will perform a 50% water change now and see how they are in the Morning.

I'm not sure about the filter as it is one I got with the tank...

It say's its a RENA Filstar i1...

very strange i don't know what to say to that lol

the carbon can be a black sponge or a little bag with like coal looking chips in ( im not too good at explaining things lol

im glad they are perking up mate would you give us an update tomorrow mate please oh i would do another test in the morning too

Just performed a 50% water change.

My Guppies love it when I change the water haha... so yes they are still swimming like mad.

Maybe the high NitrIte has started to effect them after all this time...?

Just hope I don't wake up to two dead fish.

it might be a mood thing or breeding thing mate sometimes they can change colour slightly or have you used any blue meds lately but thats abit doubtfull i think meds staining fish

if you look in the second pic just behind the stomach you will see a pinkish opaque bit keep your eye on that if it starts turning blakish she is carrying eggs

No I haven't used any blue meds. :S
Just the stuff that I mentioned earlier...

I think the female is Pregnant... But that doesn't explain why the male would seem to have died for a few seconds...? lol

anyway.

I'm off to bed now.

Will update tomorrow morning.

It could be a light issue. How dark is the room they were in? When I was in college, if I left for a weekend I'd leave the light off on my tank until I bought a timer for it. After a couple of days without much light, just whatever light came in through the windows, my guppies tended to look a little pale and seem kind of sluggish like they were just waking up. It never lasted long. I always assumed it was just readjusting to the light. I know when we have really cloudy days around here I'm kind of sluggish, so seems like the fish might be too. :)

Yup, exactly what I was thinking. They were asleep! You get all sorts of strange looks and behaviors from fish if you wake them up with sudden light.

Nitrite level sure doesn't look good!
