im sorry i dont have the parameters of the water but my fish were dropping like flies earlier and iv done a 50/50 water change

i have sand substrate which i stirred last night to keep clean?, and i cleaned my filter out this morning

it is a jewel rekord 800 and when i cleaned the filter quite a bit of muck went in the water, like normal

afterwards i noticed my rosy tetras starting to sink and lay on the floor, slightly reddish gills, then i noticed my 6 week old platy fry doing the same, i rapidly done a water change

this was at 2 and its now 7

i have:
5 neons (completely unaffected)
5 Cories (ill at first but perked up in an hour)
5 kuhlis ( cant always see them but i think they are better)
about 5 baby platies that lay on the floor but slighty move and breath
a horse faced loach that does the same
4 adult platies that seem ok ish but stay still near the surface, breathing normally
3 clown loaches (bombproof these guys)

im wondering if it was a release of hydrogen sulphide and other gas from when i stirred the sand last nite, or it was an ammonia spike from the filter cleaning?

someone please help, iv already lost 3 bentos tetra

I think without the water parameters it's going to be a bit of guess work. But i'll be interested to hear what others think as there's often discussion about whether the gasses in substrate are dangerous or not.

i had a few uplifting moments though, i was holding a "dead" baby and just before i lifted him out, he wriggled away from my hand milimetres before the surface

change 50% of the water again - dechlorinate and match temp as near as possible like normal

If fish are still weird tomorrow morning do another 50% and again in the evening - it wont hurt the tank having goiod clean water into it

also get the water tested if possible and write down the exact results and post here
