Hi,
can anyone advise me what the best ph level is for my tank? I have a community tank with tetra, molly, bumblebee, harlequin and some small catfish living happily together.

Thanks

This is the wrong section I'm sorry to say. For any questions on tropical freshwater fish, there is an entire section given to them with plenty of subforums to better direct questions.

But to answer your question, any pH from roughly 7 up to as high as 8 is good for most commonly traded tropical freshwater fish :good: Higher than 8 and you'll start to see some problems for most species

I don't know that you ever got an answer to your question or not. There are some fish that are very delicate and hae more precise pH needs but for the most part, fish will adapt to almost any stable pH. Most of the fish you mentioned would probably prefer slightly acidic will but will be fine from about 6.0 to 8.0. Mollies prefer brackish water though, so they aren't the best tankmates for the other fish you mentioned.

What is the pH, GH & KH of your tap water? If you don't have the test kits (you need a good liquid master test kit), take a tap water sample to the fish store and have them test it. Get the exact readings from them (not that the water's hard or soft) and post them here if you have any questions. The worst thing you can do though is start using pH adjusting chemicals as they keep the pH in constant swing anc sause more harm than good.
