I got given 2 new fish for my birthday but dont know what they are was told by sister one is a cousin to the convict has stripes on body like a convict but is a something blue eye.... the other fish is pink with a blackish blaze down front of head not the prettiest fish to look at.
What could these fish be????????

Pictures would sure help if possible, could the first one be a 'Jade eye cichlid?'

Profile
Cichlid-forum's profile of a blue eye'd cichlid, Archocentrus spilurus (not sure if thats valid name anymore).

It could also be a cutteri by your description, the stripes seen to indicate cutteri more than the spilurus, though pics would clear things up:
Profile

Both of these fish are of (or used to be, not sure on their scientific name due to the reshuffle), the Archocentrus genus, of which the convict used to be in.

These are the only photos I got not the best as mobile doesnt have a good camera on it

The first pic does look like a cutteri, the second picture looks like an african cichlid and I think you'll have a betterwith an ID in that section. Good luck :good:

Here are some better photo's of those 2 fish for identification

the second looks an old world cichlid so better of getting info in oldworld section
the first do you have a better picture because iam half agreeing with shroob but got a severum rolling round in my head also

I'm not 100% set on cutteri, but I don't think its a severum, the body shape is not quite right but I could be wrong. How big is the fish Trish? (my ghetto rhyming slang for you there)

I agree, that it's not a severum but I don't think it's cutteri either. I had a breeding pair and their stripes were always there, it does look like something from the cryptoheros family, but I'm not sure what.

First picture - Archocentrus Spilurus.
Second picture - Pseudotropheus sp Peacock.
These fish should not be kept in the same water perameters. The latter being a cichlid from Lake malawi of high Alkali waters.
Dan. :good:
