Last night I found one of my platy's trapped in the protective cover surrounding my heater, I figured he swam in through the bottom, I managed too pop him out but he lost alot of scales and aftert quarantining him in a bredding trap he died at some point this morning.

Too my horror, after moving the heater, I found my BIG RTBS trapped in there!!!

I cut him free as I couldnt push him out but I noticed he has burnt himself along the side and again has lost some scales but doesnt look in as bad a state as the platy.

What can I do too save Sharky? I have removed the heater cover for now as it is quite dodgy now I have cut it open.

Regards

Stuart

nobody with any words of wisdom??

why do you need a heater cover they are only really needed when you have large fish that knock the heater about i would leave it off

ps sorry about the fish

It was on there when I bought it so just left it on. Plus I didnt know if it was needed too stop ANY fish from harming themselves on the heater

R.I.P.
I would add some melafix to stop the burns getting infected.
I would buy a different kind of heater guard.

ok this morning I notice where sharky had been injued that he is covered in that area in a white almost transparent growth perfectly covering the injured area, his tail fin is ragged, and worst, he is floating upside down at the top of the tank.
He is still breathing and I have put him into a bredding trap too stop anyone attacking him, treated last night with 5 caps of pimafix, and the same again this moorning.

I think he may well die, amy thoughts on what it is, im devastated!!!

If he's floating upside down not good.
He has an internal infection, or swim bladder, but they can turn upside down when dying.
Is the fish bloated.

ok......got home tonight and had a look at sharky, he is still living but the covering of his wound now covers the majority of the rear of his body, he still floats on his back and is defo not internal its definately too do with the growth which i also noticed looks jelly like, like vaseline i suppose coating his body. anyone seen this before? pls reply asap!

Weird.
I have heard of jelly substance on fish but forgot what it mean.
He's in bad shape if he's on his back.
I will look for some info.

Sounds like the wounds infected if there jelly on it.
If the fish is upside down not good.

He died this morning ( RIP Sharky.................

thanks for all your help Wilder, should I continue dosing with pimafix incase their is anything left in the water??

Pimafix is no good you need melafix.
Water changes are best to be honest.
R.I.P.
