Mentioned in another thread I purchased 3 females. One of them has turned out to be male.

Woke this morning to find one of the females in a cave, not really moving. She's eventually come out and looks in a bad way. Her pectoral fin on the left side (I think it's pectoral? The fins that are on the side of the body, near the head) looks messed up and it's moving at all. Looks like a few scales have been torn up too.
She's swimming fine, if a little slow but occasionally drops to the bottom and rests on the gravel.

The problem is, the one I suspect of being a male won't leave her alone and is constantly nudging at the fin that isn't moving. It's probably this fish that has done the damage.

I don't have a tank I can move her to except another community tank, which I don't really want to do if it's going to put my other fish at risk. Is there anything else I can do?

I'm also ringing the lfs later to complain about the whole thing.

Female or Male , I would split the two up! Have you got a divider? Or seperate breeding box?
Just get them apart asap.If you dont intend to keep this male, i personally would ring up your LFS saying they must take it back.

seperate them even if i means just putting the one into a large bowl for a while til you can figure out other housing arrangement for him/her. as for the one who is getting beaten up, do a water change, and add a bit of aquarium salt to her tank.

Depending on what you have in your community tank, you might be better served putting the male in there. He can't be with the other female, either, not just this injured one.

The reason you don't want to put the injured female into the community tank is that she's already stressed and placing her with a lot of other fish might do her in. She should also be medicated with Bettafix Remedy and then, if need be, maracyn.

Please separate them right away, even if all you do is place the male in a really large vase for the moment. I agree that you should bring him back to the lfs.

About 10/15 minutes after I posted this, the injured female swam underneath some bogwood. When I lifted the bogwood up she was dead.

Definitely going to take the male back to lfs regardless.

If I wanted a male betta I'd have bought one. I wanted females for a specific reason.

You should have immediately removed them male a large jar would have been fine. If there is another girl in there still, move him out asap
