few months back i bought three platys from my LFS. unfortunately the woman in the shop didn't sex them correctly so i have ended up with two males and one female!! the problem is one of the males simply hasnt grown and really looks worse for wear! i wanted to take him back but one of the guys at the lfs (not the regular fellas) reckons he's either a runt (!) or has been bullied so much he wont recover. now, i dont want to kill him cos i really do feel sorry for him and wanted to buy another small tank to house him in. now, onto the question, would a male platy be fine living on his own?? or should i buy another two females to accompany him when/if he recovers!

hope you can help!

sorry should of mentioned! my tank is fully stocked so adding more to the current set up, unfortunately, is not an option i have! ive got a 24 UK Gallon tank with 2 Bristlenose Catfish (will be one when my friend has set his tank up), 6 Tiger Barbs, 3 Platys and 12 White Cloud Minnows.

Thanks for your help though!

get anther tank like you say, put him in there with a couple of females, you could then use that as a hospital tank for pooly fish from your main tank,
that way you are keeping the small tank fully cycled all the time :good: :good:

thanks for that! will go and buy a new tank tomorrow then. any idea as to what size is minimum for three platys?? i was thinking something like 5gal?
