Hi everyone,
Only recently set up my first tank and its a few days into its fishless cycle. I've got java moss, java fern and anubias nana in there at the moment. I've noticed a sort of white fuzzy cloud growing around the rhizome on the anubias and don't know whether it's good it bad. It looks like mold, like the type that grows on food. The rhizome isn't planted in the substrate. Any one got any ideas on what it is and is it harmful to the tank. Thanks

As it is white it is likely a fungus of some sort.  Some fungi are harmless, some highly toxic, and there is no way to determine this without microscopic examination by a microbiologist (or someone with the knowledge) to ID the species.  I would tend to think this one harmless.  Snails are good at eating fungus; I was testing some branches I collected in a tank without fish and small tufts of fungus appeared here and there at the buds, but after I tossed in a handful of pond and Malaysian snails, fungus disappeared in a few days.

Thanks for the reply Byron
Yeah i came the conclusion that it was a fungus, harmful or not I decided to wash it off but as soon as i tried to pick the plant out every single leaf fell off it. Guess is was eating the plant. The fungi exploded into the tank but managed to fish most of it out with a net.
Thanks
