Please can someone identify if these may be safe in an aquarium, and what they are.
Thanks.

I don't have a clue, I'm afraid, but rock 10 is really nice.
I'd be a little wary of rocks found on the beach, so asking was a good move
Hopefully someone can come identify them for you :)

Thanks mate, most people on other forums told me rock 10 wasnt nice lol.
Bring the rock experts on here.

I'm not a rock expert, but I can tell you that rock 9 is slate and rock 10 is almost certainly, um, house brick...

Check them with vinegar and so long as none of them fizz then they'll be fine in a tank. Just give them a good scrub in hot water to make sure you've removed any dirt etc.

Thanks people, is there any rock experts on here, or people that know by looking through experience.

Thanks agian.

Pics1,2,3,5,and 7 look like granite and the last one could be sand stone.

Keith.

Cool granite is safe then, i have a bit of granite actually i got from a landscaping centre. Will compare them too see if they are farmiliar.
Thanks.

They don't look anything like granite to me

This is what granite looks like ; http://geology.about.com/od/rocks/ig/igrockindex/rocpicgranite.htm

The last one is house brick though, I'm 99.999% certain.

As already said the last one looks like an old housebrick a definite no no, test with vinegar with the others, if they fizz discard but to me they look non permiable (safe).

I'l do the tests on them.

Thanks for the help everyone, and anyones elses help is still needed.

Wherabouts did you collect them? There are some pretty good geological maps you can look at online.

Also, I've never found the vinegar test very helpful; acetic acid is really too weak to be effective. Best thing to do is test the pH (and hardness if you have a DH or GH test) of a bucket of water, dump the rocks in and test again in a couple of days and see what's happened.

I'm no rock expert but some of these samples do look like volcanic granite i've seen on Ben Nevis.

Keith.

Test them all with vinegar if it dosnt fizz then it ok to use.

I would personaly be very wary of anything that came from the sea.
