I have an angel fish that has been mostly lying on the bottom of the tank for about the last 2 days. This morning, I went into town and bought a 15-litre tank to use as a hospital tank, in an effort to save it. I have to confess that I am not at all sure what I can do, but I set up the tank by putting in around 9 litres of water from the main tank and topping up with fresh tap water. Then I added some aquarium salts and a dose of swim bladder treatment. It did once swim up into the water, but only briefly. It tends to lie in the same place for ages.
I'm having to wonder if it was a mistake to use water from the main tank in case there is something about the water that is causing the problem.
One thing I have to say about the water in the main tank is that there is a slight film on the surface. This happened a few months ago, and I vacuumed the tank and cleaned out the filter, replacing the activated charcoal. This seemed to cure the issue over the next few hours. Then it happened again a couple of weeks ago, and I repeated the cleaning process. Then it came back at the weekend, so I cleaned out the filter again, but it hasn't really made any difference this time.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
