Help With Pmdd

Hi all,

i will be gettin some plants soon and have been reading about fertz.

im interested in buying PMDD, just abit confused about it ?

so pretty much PMDD is just some crystals you buy and when you mix it, its an all round fert for your tank ?!

how do i know how to mix it and how do i know how much to put in my tank ?

someone also said i should get chelated iron. Do i just add this to the pmdd and mix it all at once ?!

I don't know a great deal about PMDD, but whilst looking at it when researching what ferts to use, i came across this by Tom Barr...

"PMDD assumes a PO4 limited tank is desirable and also at the same time a low Fe level is desirable. But a tank cannot have two limited nutients at once. Nor does "excess" Fe and PO4 cause algae in a well run tank. The testing of Fe and trying to keep a 0.1ppm residual just seems like a lesson in futility. Plants only need roughly 0.006ppm a day of iron, not much and beyond anything our test can come close to."

this put me off, not that i was gonna use this method, i looked into it EI method, and came across PMDD. If i was you i'd look into EI as it's quite a cheap way to run a tank.

No one really uses just PMDD anymore. Instead they will use PMDD + PO4. This is to ensure their is enough phosphates. Otherwise too little causes algae.
