I'm currently putting another tank together and have a Eheim 2213.

Should I be putting the carbon pad in?

edit : I plan on planting this tank, so im presuming I shouldn't, but any advice is good.

No leave the carbon out, it'll remove iron and other useful nutrients the plants need to grow.

You leave it in for 2 weeks,to remove any debris from the filter. It should say this on the directions.
Great choice of Filter by the way,got one myself.

Yeah, It'll be a couple of weeks before I plant no doubt anyway..

Should I put the rest of the media in if i'm going to plant?

Yeh put all the media in the filter from day one, that gives it a change to accumulate the required bacteria. BTW can I suggest you just use sponge rather than the 'media' as its cheaper and will do just as good a job.

I agree, the classic range are excellent filters, just a shame you have to get separate tap connectors for it, two for my 2211 worked out almost as much as the filter!
