Hiya I'm kinda new to all this forum stuff so please bear with me :) Anyway, we have a hexagonal tropical aquarium, which is probably about 50L or so, but we're not sure :/ It is home to many different species: Silver Dollars, Kribensis, Catfish, a Plec, Sky Blue & Red Eye Tetras, a miniature Koi angelfish and a Panda Loach. Busy, I know, but they are all healthy and well. I took some pictures - they're not very good but it'll give you an idea of the setup.

I would like to change the way the tank is set up however I am unsure what to do as the hexagonal shape of the tank makes it harder. I have seen pictures on the internet of tanks with sand in and driftwood and plants which I really like but am unsure as to a few things:
~ At the moment we have 2 plastic plants in our tank, as our 3 silver dollars love to "prune" any kind of real plant that we put in. I would love to have some real plants as plastic ones just aren't the same but don't know if there is any kind of plant that would stand up to them. They get fed cucumber and peas which they love so it's not as if they aren't getting any veg in their diet. We bought a plant which was recommended to us by our pet shop, however we woke up the next morning to find it as confetti around the tank. Unfortunately, I can't remember what kind of plant it was. Any ideas?
~ Also we have a pair of currently non-breeding Kribensis, who are very territorial about the rock cave (pictured).

It looks like they've hollowed out a bit in the gravel inside it but she isn't showing any signs of carrying eggs yet. I doubt they would breed in a community tank, but would changing the layout of the tank and removing their cave upset them?
~ Third thing. Is sand ok for bottom feeders? We have 2 albino corydoras catfish and 1 plec. I doubt it would cause any problems but I just want to make sure. :good:

Thank you for reading my blog :D If you have any ideas for tank layouts, or answers to any of my questions, please post them. I would be very grateful.

Hi & Welcome :)

sand is fine for corydoras and plecos
common plecostomus get big and might need re-homing when older.

kribensis will breed in a community tank. If you move their home and they eat their eggs, they will lay again in a couple of weeks.

there aren't really any real plants that survive silver dollars so just stay with plastic, and keep feeding them vegetable matter (cucmber, etc)

Thanks for your post :)

We've had the plec for a while now and hes stayed small so I guess hes another variety.

Thanks for your advice :D
