Hi,

I'm about to get a 65 gallon tank and I would like to know if the fish I want will work and not be over crowded. Thanks. It will be planted with gravel.

4 Discus
1 Butterfly fish
1 Bristle nose Pelc
3-4 German Blue rams
10-15 Rummy Nose tetra
10-15 Cardinal Tetras
6-10 Emerald Corys

Thanks
Lee

The discus need a bigger tank than that, ideally, but it would be okay for a breeding pair or a few juvies (not a permanent home for all four, I think). Your display would look more stunning if you chose between the rummy nose or neon tetras, then double (for rummy nose) or triple (for neons) the numbers. A bristlenose would do well in this set up. Do about twelve corydoras. Decorate the tank with plenty of caves and plants and you should be okay with that many rams.

I don't know much about butterfly fish.

You won't want to do gravel though because of the Cory. Though it is true that there are several species who are found in the amazon with pebbles and other types of gravel, these are much smoother from the constant river flow than most commercial aquarium gravel. Most corydoras like to sift sand through their gills anyway, so this is also something to consider.

Thanks this is very helpful. so 2 discus will be ok with all the other fish>?

I wouldn't put two discus in there, but you could get away with it. These are not in for beginners though. They are incredibly sensitive and do not tolerate fluctuating water conditions. They do not tolerate nitrate and require very frequent water changes with no fluctuation in temp. Many keepers use a combo of RO water and tap.

I've got a 30gallon atm with 1 discus in it. he started very small about 3cm and now its about 10cm Its a Red Scribbelt Stendker Discus and the colour is really coming out so I'm getting the tank for him. I change the water 1-2 times a week 20% change a time. Was just thinking of getting him a pal for the new tank but I will most probs keep me on his own. my new filter will be EheimFilter 350 Pro 3 2073 Which I been told is a perfect filter for 65 Gallon. Cheers
For all your help
