Tank size: 5 US Gallons
pH: between 7.6 - 7.8
ammonia:below 0.25mg/L
nitrite: dont know
nitrate: dont know
kH:?
gH:?
tank temp: 77 F 25 C

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):

Leopard Danio (Spot), has a white tipped top fin now. Was not this way when I got Spot and has recently developed. Don't know what to do as I have only had my fish for 2 months.

Volume and Frequency of water changes: 25% of tank water once a week and 50% once a month

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: Rocks, plastic plants, bubble wall, castle wall. Chemicals I use are Stress Zyme from Wal-Mart, and Cycle from Wal-Mart

Tank inhabitants: 1 Leopard Danio, 1 Zebra Danio, 2 Tetras (not sure of the kind), and a Plecostomus (Pleco)

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): None

Exposure to chemicals: Just did 25% change in past 3 days

We have hard water here and use a water softener, I use the drinking tap, (doesn't get filtered by the water softener) Could this be the reason?

NO! Don't flush it! This would be worse for the fish then trying to help him!!!

He may have the beginnigs of fin rot. Any possible way to get a picture uploaded?
DO you see his tail being eaten away at all?

A 5 gallon tank is quite small for those fish, danios especially like larger groups and larger tanks. Also your pleco is gonna grow way to big for the tank you have.

I have it set up with the pet store that when McHawk (pleco) gets to big a can trade him for a new one that is my size... I will miss him tho, but he doesnt seem to be growing any bigger.

I got 2 danios because of the group thing and I am hoping to get a larger tank sooner rather than later. I just need to get a good stand to put it on and the money to do so.

How can I treat fin rot?

Also I would love to get a picture of Spot, but alas, he likes to move WAY to fast for that. I have tried with all three of my digital cameras and none get a good shot... do you have any suggestions on how to get one?

If this is Spot it is like a white stripe on his top fin, at the very top of the fin.

Take a look at that picture. Leopard Danios do have a white stripe along the very top of their fins. It is part of their natural coloring. I have two of them and they look like that picture.

Here is a bigger picture. Look at the top fin. Is that similar to your fish?
If so then that should be normal. Just be sure to watch and be sure that your fishes fins do not start to disappear. When they look like they are disappearing then there may be a problem.

 It does look similar, now I feel like a bit of a goof for over reacting. Do Zebra Danios have the same kind of stripe? As I noticed that Oiseau has the same thing on him now too.

Yes, the zebra danio should have that stripe. It is part of their natural coloring. However it is also hard to see sometimes because the little guys do move so quickly! :good:

Always better to check on your fish then to let something go!!

Best of luck!!

I have 4 long finned leopard danios (pic in sig) and they have white edges to all their fins if that's any help :good:
