Hi

I just did a test on my tank water.

ph 7.0
kh 6
no2 0
no3 40
po4 10
amonia 0
co2 19

This is based on 33 watts of light 65l tank and a nutrafin ladder them readings ok? im using EI but my phosphate is way high is that ok? im going to be switching to presurised soon hopfully should improve things. just getting problems with brown algae covering a few plants at the moment co2 maybe?

Don't know about the phosphate but when I had brown algae someone told me it was because my lights were on too long. I reduced it and the algae went.

Hi,
If you've read thoroughly up on Ei you'll know you do not need to test and also how innacurrate the readings of these test kits are. Unless you have calibrated yours against known concentrations and are using a spectrophotometer those readings are worth nothing.

You should definately have pressuried CO2 as you have 2 wpg and are dosing ferts. Without steady CO2 you will be asking for trouble in the form of algae as you are experiencing. Until you get the pressurised CO2 another way to make CO2 more stable is to use 2 yeast based systems, changing each one once a week but about 3 days apart.

I agree with Lisa. EI or other methods. No point in testing. If somethings wrong the fish or plants will tell you.

definately needs pressurised or at least 2 Nutrafins as Lisa says. If they are T5s or PC then even more so
