HELP!

My wife just called me to say that our fluval roma tank is leaking. It looks like condensation and water is getting past the seal at the top and running down the side in steady drips.

It must have been going on for a while as its started to soak into the cabinet and the lid is lifting.

I'm sure I saw a similar post on here somewhere but I cant find it :(

I dont want to really have to take the top off and resealant it as it will void any future warranty.

If pets at home say they'll replace it then how do i go about swapping a tank full of fish over to a new tank?

Any advice / guidance gratefully received.

Cheers

Matt
(ps apologies if this is in the wrong place)

This is a well known problem with the roma/vincenza range from fluval. As its already causing damage to the cabinet, then providing its still under warranty, contact where you bought it from, explain the problem and insist on a replacement.

When the time comes to change the tank over, put the fish a large enough container, with the filter and heater running, this way you dont have to worry about a temp drop or losing any filter bacteria, set up the new tank as normal, then re-introduce the fish.

I would be tempted to add some extra silicone to the rim myself on the new tank to stop it happening again, its easy enough to do and providing you dont fill the tank completely to the top for a few days, this will give the silicone time to cure.

cheers Minxy,

I've just phoned where it came from, they have agreed to replacing the cabinet but are saying that they'll just give me some sealant to redo the top of the tank. I'm not sure I'm happy with that, wont it mess up any warranty if anything else goes wrong?

I'm going to have to take most of the water out to move the tank off the cabinet anyway so would I be better insisting on a new tank? How can I tell if its right on the new one?

Oh so many questions (sorry)

Explain to them that the lid is lifting and you would invalidate the warranty if you tried to repair it yourself, failing that contact Hagen themselves, google for the email address and contact them and explain the problem, this is what I did when my roma 240 was doing the same thing, they agreed to a replacement and contacted the place I got it from, who replaced it without question. They will want the tank/cabinet back for inspection, but thats up to them to come and collect it.

Its a problem that Hagen are aware of, yet still dont seem to fix, they dont use enough sealant when they make them, so you just need to get some aquarium safe sealant and go all around the rim with it, between the glass and the lid yourself when the new one arrives and it should be fine, my second one I had, never did it, but the place I purchased it from put the sealant on themselves to ensure it didnt happen again.
