Tank size: 55 gal

nitrates are on the high side

I gravel vac'd using a recirculating canister filter about two weeks ago so the water is clear, but i feel i should have actually done a water change due to the raised nitrate levels. Last night I meant to do the water change but didn't have time so I put a significant amount (approximately 3 tablespoons) of Amquel Plus in the tank in an effort to drop the nitrate level. This afternoon when I came back from work the two peacock bass in the tank had solid white spots on both of their eyes. Their fins are slightly deteriorated but the rest of their bodies seem fine and their demeanor seems pretty normal. The Texas cichlid in the tank doesn't have eye problems but is hiding and acting somewhat sickly. Today I did a 10 gallon water change. I attached two pics of the fish.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Weird any signs of flicking and rubbing going off.
White spots and specs on the eye can be eye flukes.
Does the spot look fluffy.

No signs of flicking or rubbing off. The spot does not look fluffy, just a deep opaque tint to the lens. I have also noticed some slight bulging of the lens. I have begun treatment with melafix. Hopefully that will help them. I've read on some websites about this and can't decide if it's a fungus, gram negative bacterial infection, or just a reaction to the large dose of Amquel Plus I put in the tank.

I would treat is as bacterial but will need somthing stronger than melafix.
