actually that isnt accurate

during the day plants will use up co2 and give off oxygen, so even if u are pumping co2 in, the plants will use it, ONLY if u have enough plants in there to use it sufficiently

so aslong as there are no air pumps running, ie bubble machines, ur tank is heavily planted ur fine

also it has to be switched off at night, as the process is then reversed, and the plants give off co2 and use oxygen

Again, aslong as ur tank has enough plants to warrant the machine then no fish will die, theyre hardly gonna make and sell a machine that will kill ya fish lol

i got a nutrafin natural plant systems, yeast based CO2 set, and lost 2 of my girls to it.
but that wasn't due to the CO2 itself. it comes with a ladder that the bubbles run up slowly so that the CO2 dissolves into the water. but it has holes so the bubbles can travel from front to back and back to front. in one night 2 of my girls squeezed themselves through the tiny holes, got stuck between the ladder and the back of the tank and suffocated in the CO2!!! needless to say i took it off after that and bought some little glass diffusers from ebay. no more dead fish yay!

the diffuser panels are brilliant, and as u say, atleast the fish cannot get wedged behind it

ibble did u turn ur co2 machine off at night?

Thanks so much all. I am rescaping this weekend and will upload pics to see what you think. I do not want to use CO2....I'm confused enough, LOL ! I ordered some tabs you put in the substrate near the roots. Hopefully will be enough. I like the idea of taking the plants out and letting the algae die off. I will try it ! Faith

u can also get liquid supplements for the plants by red sea, flora 24 which is a daily dose, and flora sommet else lol carnt remember what it is called

but my lfs sell it with the tablets for the roots for under a tenner, and its fab

I know I've seen CO2 + fertilizer tablets for tanks. I would think that one of those every now and then would be enough to give a lightly planted tank a nice boost.
