hey guys, so I didn'tdo my research properly:( and I got my 10 gallon tank let it run for about a week and the I bought a dwarf gourami, I did more research and found out that I have to cycle it properly,so what can I do now? can I cycle it with my dwarf gourami in there? I bought a marimo moss ball and an anubia nana. Also, my ph is way too high! its like 8.2 what should I do?
my water parameters are
ph: 8.2
ammonia: .25 ppm
nitrite: 0ppm
nitrate: 0 ppm

oh, and here's a picture of my gourami, she has survived 1 week and a half with me and she looks pretty healthy swimming around and eating properly

oops no picture, sorry :p

Have a look in the beginner's resource centre at the top of this forum and have a read on the fish-in cycle, it'll tell you everything you need to know :)

HI! :hi:

You have a bit of work to do now to get the tank cycled, but the good news is that with a 10 gallon tank it will be easier to do your water changes to keep ammonia and nitrites under control. You should be able to keep your Gourami happy.

Quick correction smaller tanks are worse to deal with then bigger tanks on water stats

@OP go and grab your self a test kit Sailferts or API will do then start going through the fish in cycle pages :good:

I just meant in terms of the volume of water they physically have to deal with during the water changes. When changing my 26 gallon tank I'm lugging a 4 gallon bucket, etc.

thanks guys,i will now i'm not so worried for my gourami! :)

one more question, should I add more fish to help with cycling? :S

I'd recommend against it. Wait til your cycling is done, then very slowly add more fish.

my ammonia is zero now and my nitrites are 5.0 ppm i'll do a water change and test again :) i think it is cycling! :good:

That doesnt realy mean too much to us without past daily results. Please start a Cycle Log, there are plenty on here for you to view so you know what info to put on it. This will help us to figure out what is going on with your water chemistry & so give you good, relevent advice.

Tom

If you're doing a fish-in cycle, you really need to test more often. The nitrite shouldnt ever be above 0.25ppm.
