Hello,

My betta seems to be having some sort of problem, and I need help with a diagnosis please! As soon as possible would be great, I live an hour away from the nearest city (and the pet store) and am going there tomorrow, so if I could know what sort of medication is needed by then that would be great!

Just a little while ago when I turned on the light in my 1 gal aquarium to feed my betta, I noticed that he has a white spot on his right eye. This was not present yesterday, so it is a fairly new development. My tank has been up and running for almost a year now, parameters are all at acceptable levels. No other fish share the tank. I do a 1/2 water change every two weeks. About a month and a half ago I had an algae outbreak, but treated it and the problem was resolved. Other than that, no other major incidents.

His eye is not swollen, and does not seem to have a cloudy film or any of the other signs of popeye. It almost looks like it may be ich? I don't know if the spots can devlop on the eyes... There is also a single white dot on his top fin. There do not seem to be any other dots on his body, but he is a very light coloured fish, so it is hard to tell.

I would assume that this is ich, but the thing that throws me off is a single red spot on his tail. It looks almost identical to an ich spot except that it is red....I have no idea what this means.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Jen

How big are the whitespots on the eye and fin are they the size of a sugar grain.
Fish can get whitespot on there eyes.
Also specs on the eye can be gill flukes.
How big is the red spot.

The red spot on the tail is about the size of a grain of sugar. The white spots on his eyes and fin are a little larger, and oblong, not round, like two or three grains of sugar pushed together. Also, the white spots are on the outside membrane of the eye, obscuring the pupil region.

Dosnt sound like whitespot then, but whitespots can join up to form a patch.
Any sgins of flicking and rubbing against objects, or laboured breathing.
Red spots could be bacterial, fish can get red dots which is septicemia.
