Hi dudes, a week or 2 ago i bought some anubias nana. I have made a bit of a mistake with it i think though. Me, being me, moved it underneath my fluval u2. You know where the shadow from the filter is, i put it there. I don't know why though.. I guess at the time i thought it would be ok. What i wanna know is whether or not it can thrive there or will i have to move it?

Also, another question, it sprouted a bud thingy a couple of days after i got it.... And it opened up a small bit, but now it appears to have closed up again. Please help.

Sounds like you planted it in the substrate, in which case it needs to be taken out and attached to rock or wood. It'll rot and die otherwise.

Anubias are slow growers so nothing major will happen for a while :)

But on fish lore it says it's ok to plant in the substrate as long as I have  the rhizome thingy above the gravel. I would post a link but you're not allowed to post links to other fish forums on here I don't think... or are you?? Anyway, the rhizome is above the substrate, it's just a few roots holding it down, so surely there is no reason for it not to grow.... Right?

And it is... so shouldn't that be fine?

While Anubias do like slightly more shaded area's in the tank, they still need the light to reach them. They also do much, much better attached to wood or rocks. I have mine on some wood in my tank right in the centre of the wood where it is slightly more shaded. So far in the past month it's sent up two new leaves and is just starting to send a third up. They are very slow growing plants compared to stem plants like Limnophila or Hygrophila.

Ah. Ok.... So i will move it onto the wood now again. Thanks for all the help guys!!
