Ive looked through site trying to establish what type of algae it is. I tried the black out method. after 3 days had crystal clear water.
Never was a problem untill last summer after 2 week holiday came back to a poorly tank due to power cut for 2 days.
I have 2 x Nutrafin co2 providers which are changed ever 3-4 days (if i remember). I have 2 x 48" lights one for plant growth and the old one as additional (can find exact specs if needed).
They come on for 1/5 hours at 7am off till 4pm then on till 23:30.
Tank consists of Tiger Barbs, plattys, neon tetras, Bolivian Ram, Clown plec, Armoured Shrimp, Otto Cinclus.

Tank size is 48x1x2.

Thanks in advance:

bba, black bear algae. cure: increase co2.

It can be stubborn to get rid of but given time it should go away. If it continues to get worse you could overdose flourish excel which will kill it.

Hey Biffor, hope you dont mind if i tag on the back of your thread.

I just had a huge Blue Green algae problem, its nasty slimey stuff. Did a 4 day black out, its totally gone!! Very pleased it worked.
Now i have another issue. My CO2 (yeast) stopped and my CO2 levels have dropped.
In the last 4 days i have an algae problem. Not sure which type it is thou.
Any ideas?
Is it thread algae or hair or beard or another type?

even though it is algae, lovely pics there :D

Thanks, i set the camera to Macro, then hold the lens flat on the tank, it works best when my hand blocks the red focus/distance meter light.

I Lloks like thread algae to me, shimp might clean that up.
