Hi All,

Been out and bought some more young platys as I had too many males and not enough females.

Guy at the fish shop was so helpful Maidenhead aquatics Nottingham :)

(the new additions white/black ones with black eyes and black mustache so beautiful).

Could someone advise me on anything extra i need to do with regards water changes etc

He sold me 6 so i now have 14 and that's the max my tank will hold after calculating.

They are already interacting with my current fish and its seems a calmer environment with having more females

I always do a 20% water change on Saturday and Wednesday will that be enough??

Any tips would be helpful.

Thanks,

Dave

I'd just do 25% once a week to be honest.

What are your water stats? It all looks ok from the picture. Plants seem ok so I'd just do more once a week but if everything is ok you could argue why change it.

The only real way to work out how much, and how often, you need to change water is to monitor your nitrate level; water changes aren't just about reducing nitrate, but it's a useful indicator.

You want to aim to keep the nitrate at no more than 20ppm higher than the level in your tap water. If you find it rising very high, or very quickly, you'll need to adjust your water change regime.

thanks guys

water stats prior to adding fish this evening were just fine

i will wait until the morning and check again prior to doing a water change

there are a few leaves and fish waste laying on the sand so might as week give the new fish a bit of clean water to swim in

my tap water is 40ppm in my area dark orange on api tester. so i have been doing it twice a week.
