I bought 5 plants a few days ago to go in my 120l tank. They are all held in to the gravel waiting to root, however, I noticed today that all of the plants have a few dead leaves.
I have heard that this is natural for just planted plants, and by removing the dead leaves, new, healthy leaves will sprout back. Is this correct?

Should I add some plant growth helper stuff? I do not have the money to invest in a CO2 kit currently. My lighting is about right.

My tank is 2 weeks old and currently has some new zebra danios which have yet to be fed - until tomorrow.

help apprec. :)

has the tank cycled firstly?

if not then i would advise you remove the fish (search cycling for infomation)

as for plannts mine often look to die when first intodruced
just leave them, they will grow new leaves and become healthy, i would advise you to buy a cheap co2 kit (£20)
just to give the plants and help and add some minerals,

also feed the fish everyday, just feed smaller amounts,

The tank has been cycled. My friend let me use some of his filter media to help kick start things.

I'll leave the plants for a bit then, maybe feed them some supplement. I will look in to CO2 kits this week.

Thank you!

Quick follow up to this thread:

Plants are leaves are still turning brown after about 4-5days. How long should it take if they are to turn in to healthy plants?

have you done any of the above points to help? (fertiliser, CO2, carbon supplement etc)
To get into the subject further:

Lighting wattage?
Size tank?
plant species? Post some pics if unsure, they may be non-aquatic.

Fertiliser, but no CO2 as of yet, or supplement.

30W lighting
120l (30 US Gal - 26.5 UK Gals)

No idea of plant species. No camera available, and they are 100% aquatic plants.

Weird, because some of the leaves are growing longer, yet still turning brown.

if you dont know the species then we are stuck. quite a few plants can survive with the lighting levels, but a lot cant either! so it could be the plant species that dont have enough light.
