I just noticed that one of my green neons has a small, short, white dangly string hanging off his side, up near his head. Its a little thicker than a piece of thread, and the base where the thread connects with the head, looks kind of round, either like a disk or like it's coiled or bunched. Its kind of hard to tell exactly because the neons are really shy and hide in the back if you stick your face up to the glass. The neon is acting normal though.

What could it be? I'm guessing parasite but I can't really find a good guide or one that has whatever this thing is on it. I'm pretty nervous about this because a month or two ago I lost a neon when he developed white lumps near his head that eventually turned into holes deep into its flesh. D:

I don't have time for water params or pictures right now, I can get some tomorrow if you think it will help figure this out.

Try looking on here to identify it, the site has a section where parasites are magnified :good:

It sounds like a parasite.
Like biffster has asked did the object have a y shaped tail.

What the... Came home today and can't find the white dangly. I did a head count and all 8 neons are present. The glass has a bit of algae right now, the tank's due for a cleaning so I'm going to do that now and then see if I can spot anything without the wall of green in the way.

Not really sure where the white thing went or why it would have gone away.

I guess it looked similar to an anchor worm but it was not nearly as large as in the pictures and didn't have a Y tail that I noticed. But what I notice with pictures is no one takes ones of the mild cases, only once things get really really bad do people take pictures.
