Help! White Cottonwool Like Substance

ive just noticed today after getting in from work that there is some sort of white candyfloss style substance on this fake ornament i have in my tank

when i say fake, its meant to look like a piece of wood and is the only thing in my tank with this white substance on it

the item has been in my tank for about 4 weeks now and has only just appeared

HELP!

i need to know whether to get shut of the item of decor ASAP or if its fione to leave in teh tank

Its most likely a type of fungus on the wood, simply remove the wood from the tank, dowse it in boiling water and give it a good scrub in hot water and that should remove it/kill it .

whats to say it wont return though?

i dont want something in my tank that may produce fungus at regular intervals

as noted on other post usual cause is over feeding and taht food not getting eaten do not feed fish for 3 days and all should clear up
