I bought API Stress Coat and Stress Zyme Tropical Fish start up pack but I've been told it's not very good.

Should I just buy the API Tap water conditioner?

Also when I do it do I put the water in the tank then add the stuff or do I have to add it before?

Personally, I would choose PRIME which will detoxify chlorine, chloramines, and ammonia. Prime will also be cheaper in the long run .
Would add the water conditioner to new water before it goes in the tank .

I use Stress Coat, it works same as Prime. Otherwise, I use home made dechlorinators.

I don't think Stress Zyme is a dechlorinator, is it? Isn't it a cycle aid?

Mix new water with dechlorinator before adding to tank, or treat the whole tank, then add the water to that.

i have just ordered a 500ml Seachem Prime and it only cost me slightly more than a 250ml Tetra from my LFS and will last ages longer :good:

As posted in your thread ...

Most people use Seachem Prime and from my personal experience its more value for money, this one you can add to the tank after you've put temp matched water in, or I prefer to add it to the bucket of water before that goes in tank. Gravels fine to go in the tank at this point, and your ornaments. Bogwood is usually added after cycling is complete as this can sometimes lower your pH, and cause your cycle to stall. Plants if they are real are more than likely better to be added after the cycle too, as lights on during a cycle can cause slight algae build up, reason being Ammonia + Light = Algae.

And yeh, stress Zyme is a cycle aid KittyKat - I bought some at one point along with API Stress coat (2 for one offer).
