Fish Fanatic
I have several pregnant fish in my tank-platys and guppies. Put my platy in the breeding net last night because I knew she was ready to drop any minute. Woke up this morning and no fry but left her in there and continued on my day. Came home this afternoon and noticed 2 fry outside of the breeding net. Panicked!!!!!! Looking at all my females trying to guess who it could be and put the most prgnant looking fish in the net and took the platy out. Put the two babies in my baby tank and the fish that i assume is the one dropping fry hasnt dropped any since i put her in the net. Anyone that can give me any clues that might help me distinguish who the culprit is? LOL Thanks!
she most likely gave birth in the night or during the day sometime so she will no longer look pregnant, it is very difficult to see fry when they are first born and they are very good at hiding so there is most likely more than two though it is likely many will be predated on by the other females including the mum
usually when the female looks big enough to burst with a slightly squared off abdomen she is due to give birth, her behaviour may also change and she may either hang at the top of the tank or hide away and shun the other fish, if you make sure there is plenty of plants in the tank including a large mass flaoting at the top the fry stand a better chance as there is more places to hide.
