My fish have been twitching their heads, rubbing on rocks, and one of my cories ( the only cory showing signs of illness) keeps swimming to the top for air. I have been treating with mardels quICK cure. It treats multiple illnesses but I do not know whats wrong. My ph is about 6.8ish not sure about other parameters. Will get water test done tomorrow. Today one of my tetras was spending all its time at the surface then started swimming sideways and was being moved with the current. Please help!

How nay gallons is the tank please?
How many fish and which type.
We really do need what stats.

For now try a water change, increase aeration.

Do any fish show any of these symptoms.
Flukes

Signs of skin, eye, gill flukes are.
White specs on the lens of the fish eye.
Red inflamed gills, pale gills with excess slime, bleeding gills.
Opaque body with excess slime.
Flicking and rubbing.
Darting, erratic swimming.
Laboured breathing, or gasping at surface of tank.
Swimming in a jerky movement.
Spitting food out.
Weight loss.
Listless and lethargic.(later stages)
Red sores, or tiny red pin prick marks on fish body, fins.
Secondary bacterial infections.
Are any fish pecking at other fish gills?

The tank size and stock are in my signature. I got my water tested about 2 weeks ago, the only problem was low ph. My fish are showing many of those signs. No spots, but some fish have reddish gills, acara is swimming in jerkin motions, darting, flashing and rubbing. Spits some food out but he does eat. Shark is rubbing. Tetras are jerky. Only one cory is showing signs by going to the surface for air and rubbing, but tonight another cory went up for air. The shark has been eating the slime coat on the sicker cory! well, thats what i think he's doing. He "cleans" him. The tank has good aeration between the filter and air stone. How do they get fluke? Treatment?

  1. Old fish and young fish are more prone to outbreaks. Especially if there stressed.
  2. Does quick cure treat flukes?
  3. Why is the ph low?

Gill Flukes

Symptoms:

Fish with gill flukes have gills that may appear red and inflamed, bleeding or slimy. Excess mucous or puss may exude from the gills. Sick fish can be observed gasping for air near the surface. This disease is most common in younger fish and fry, who are more susceptible to the parasite.

Cause:

The monogenetic fluke Dactylogyrus, which destroys gill tissue and damages blood vessels in this region.

Treatment:

Treat with Clout, Fluke Tabs, Paraform, Trifon, Paragon, Quick Cure, Formalin, orParasite Guard. Gill flukes are highly contagious, therefore, all fish in the same aquarium should be treated.

How much has your PH altered a lot, or just abit?

Were the fish flicking and rubbing, darting before you added the med?

Sorry for the spelling mistakes it late here and getting tired.
The time up for editing your post.

If you are dealing with sick fish in your 55 gallon it is best not to put your Betta in there with them. (it's late and I did not want to search for your other thread) Best get a small heater for your 10 gallon Betta tank and use different equipment for each tank so you don't spread illnesses from one tank to the other. Cleaning the equipment with very hot water may help too....

Sounds like ammonia / nitrite. What tests were done ??? Did you clean your filter recently ??

Its ok. I believe the ph is low just because of the tap water, but i just bought ph neutralizer and add it when i do WC and so far it is workig. It is slowly raising the ph. Yes the quick cure does cure fluke, but only mild outbreaks. How do i know if its mild or severe? I noticed that my sick cory has white marks on its eyes. Looks like scars or scrapes or something. This has been going on for a while, i think it might have come from the stress of having ich. I treated them for ich and like 1 or 2 weeks after that treatment was done, i noticed the shark rubbing and acara not long after that started darting and flashing and stuff. I have only been adding meds once a day ( half dose because of tetras.) i didnt do 2 doses because i wasnt sure what was even wrong. But fluke seems to be the cause so i will start dosing twice a day starting today.

Yea totally. I wouldnt add the betta now. Even if it wasnt fluke, theres meds in the tank and the betta isnt sick.

Do you have your water stats yet Please!

Shoot not yet, sorry! I will get it done tonight!

OK.
Good Luck.

Ok guys. Just got the water test done and..... My water is perfect. Ph 7 ammonia 0 nitrates 0 nitrites 0.
