I have a 55g community tank and one of my mollies recently gave birth to a few fry. I knew this was going to happen and luckily put her in a breeder. Now i am trying to set up a separate fry tank for the babies, but i don't know what to use for a filter. i feel like a traditional hang on power filters might suck up the helpless fry...what should i use for a filter? thanks to anyone that replies

from what i've read, the same thing can happen with other filter types. i've seen recommendations for strapping sponge to the intake, although it obviously lowers the water flow, making the filter less effective...

Get a sponge filter and power it with a power head. This is a sponge filter big enough for a 40 gallon tank but they are made in much smaller sizes.

You can use any filter - just tie a piece of ladies stocking or piece of a pair of ladies tights over the filter intake - it will be find enough to stop your fry getting sucked up but wont affect the filter flow.
