I have 30 gallon with mollies, danios, rainbow shark, and some mystery fish I adopted.

Hubby just scored a 18-20 gallon tank from work.

I want to do some different fish in this tank. Any suggestions? The only store around here is Petco so that limits me a little.

I have thought about an Oscar or Chilids...but I don't know anything about them.

So help me.

Also can I cycle this new tank using water from my other tank when I do a change to speed things up?

oscars is a no no they need a bare minimum of a 55us gallon<much prefered 75usgallon>they can and do grow to 15inches and grow exstremly quickly, mine grew from 0.5-10inches in 1year and still growing
maybe these might intrest you
1 pair Convict cichlids<Archocentrus nigrofasciatus
5"Serpae Tetra" Hyphessobrycon eques

or
1 pair Rainbow Cichlid<Herotilapia multispinosa
5 "Tiger Barb"Capoeta tetrazona

Hey there,

the water's not much good, the rule of thumb is 'it's the filter you cycle, not the water'. So, basically, buy a filter and stick it in your established tank for a couple of weeks and that will cycle your filter. Then put nice fresh water in your new tank and add the filter and voila! An instant cycled tank!

As for stocking, you could make it a brackish tank, slightly salty, put your mollies in, add some guppies and wait for babies. That would free up room in your other tank if you wanted some bigger fish.
