i noticed my gourami had a couple black spots on its sides about 4 weeks ago so i put it in its own tank. i added some aquarium salt to see if that would help but no luck, so a week later i added jungle brand parasite treatment and still nothing. the black spots have spread ripidly and some are starting to blister. anyone know whats going on

I think I am 100% on this, but have to ask one question how old is this fish have you had it longer than 3 months cause usually this dont' occure right out of the blue, it usually happens when adding a new fish to the tank.

Name:
Black Spot (diplopstomiasis)
Symptoms
Small black speckles on body,Flickering,Small black smudges on fish,Scratching against surfaces,Very irritated

do any of these apply? How big are they? Are there snails in the tank? Do they eyes look clouded ??

there is no clouding of the eyes and has no temperment changes, ive had him for about 6 months before it started. there was a 4 inch apple snail in his tank for a while, the spots that started to stick out like blisters are about 2.5 millimeters or 1/10 of an inch

does he rub his self against the glass, or anything that is in the tank. Looks like it is scratching its self. Also when you did the medication did u up the temp in the tank. What is the current temp of the tank. And what are you water perm. Nitrate, Nitrite and ammo? Basically I want to know everything. Is it sticking his fins to his body or is it swimming around fine.

he doesnt rub up against anything at all, however he does seem to rock forwad and backward when he isnt doing anything, almost like he cant stay still. the rocking movements stride about half an inch. when medicated the tank was around 80 - 82 deg, now its at 76 - 78 deg. the spots are spread all over his body but not the fins. he is also eating normally

ammonia tested at 0
nitrite tested at .1
ph tested at 7.6

i dont have a nitrate tester but i will buy one

Guess you have a fighter if he is eating normally, the part about moving back and forth in the water is known as the deadly gourmis disease that apperently can't be treated but could also be doing this because of the sores on the body! Especially if just started doing it.

~ Water Change Daily 10%! ~

May or maynot be issue at this time, but sounds like you had ammo, and its turned into nitrite so far you want these reading at 0ppm!

I would focus on the open wounds (the blisters) they are an internal perasite by the sounds of it, Melafix won't work for this issue unfortunitly same with the jungle medication. I would reco using a copper medication something with copper in it. Try feeding a antibiotic fish food made by tetra! (Go for internal parasite) Definitly do a salt water bath 1 time a day with a solution of 1 tsp aquarium salt to 1 gal of water and NOT in fish tank put seperate smaller bowl and let it sit in there for 10-20 minutes and continue this for only a week. (Use tank water when making your batch and do a 10% water change every day till he is better) Also up the air ration in the tank and the temp to 30C very slowly, it will help to kill off the parasites. Edit ~ The longer he is in the solution is better for him in the end but if showing signs of stress within the first 5min remove so 5min would be minimum you want him in there but try to go for 20mins if you can keep an eye on him when in the solution!

Give this a go and see how it works out give updates here, so i can see the progress of the fish :)
This should work but no garentee, internal parasites in Gourmis are very dangerous and very common and there main one that alot know about that actually can't be treated and hoping this is not the one!

so i did the first salt treatment and all of the black spots turned light brown, some of the blister looking things peeled of but this could be due to the net i used to scoop her up

so tonight i had the gourami in the salt bath and forgot about him, he was in there for about two hours. when i put him back in his tank it looked like he had no spots at all and he stopped rocking back in forth. he is also activly swimming so for the next few treatments i might do the same time frame

yeah i accidnetly left a large jewel overnight in an epsom salt bath after suspecting he'd backed up. the prolonged treatment worked a treate and after blowing quite a load out he went back to normal. he was in the bath with tri sulfate tablets for like 6hrs or so

Sorry couldn't get on yesterday! Try and go no more than 48mins the dosage is 48mins for 1 week solid of doing the bath. They are not a salt water fish you have to remember that. But sounds like its working for ya. Keep it up. I only reco 15mins in that solution cause I figured you would forget it in there lol. Salt is a really good med when used in a bath solution.

TIP 1. Raise the main tank to 80F-82F and keep it there all the time you won't run into alot of issues with parasite with your fish and the gourmis can handle living in this tempature the entire life, I keep the ones I have in 83.5F all the time with no exceptions my 55gal!

well its been 8 treatments so far, the gourami is looking alot better and is no longer rocking back and forth. he still has some spots but they are alot smaller, when i take him out of the salt bath the spots are gone but usually come back by morning. should i keep up on the salt treatment or should i try something else. ( it seems odd but the gourami swims right in the net now, no fight at all )

Swims to the net with no fight cause it knows you are treating it and feels better in that water you are doing the salt water bath in! The good news here is it is trying to heal itself thats a really good sign.

Okay continue doing water changes every 2 days in the sick tank 50% changes, did you raise the temp of the water to 82F???? Continue with the salt treatment from the sounds of it, its working very well, BUT you have an internal parasite still present most likely, an internal parasite med, or the food will have to be used as well in the sick tank! This might sound weird but I would recommend using a brine shrimp net for catching the fish, and clean the net after every use!

So Continue with salt treatment!
Raise tank Temp to 82F in main tank and leave it there!
Treat sick tank(Main tank) with internal parasite meds as instructions say. < Instructions might say different for water changes follow them!
Once the main tank is treated, we will treat the tank with malifix to heal the wonds on the fish! and slowly take it away from the salt treatment.

Do you have carbon in your filter???? If so remove it from the main tank till the tank is fully treated! Use the carbon towards the end of the treatment of the parastie meds to remove from the water.

Lets go this route now, its identified as a internal since it seems to be coming back even with doing the salt water treatment!

You are doing a very good job :good:

Oh whats the water tests coming out as ???
