Help Selecting A New External Filter

I have a tetratec ex 600 and it is totally inadequate. It has 0 intake power and I have placed the most miniscule piece of tissue close to the intake pipe with no response. Unless I actually stick it into the pipe (intake guard removed)

It's quite frustrating because I wanted to start an fishless cycle and have been forced to postpone this until I buy a new filter. Even more so because I had a internal juwel filter and took it out.


So if you could recommend a good external filter with a decent intake then please drop your suggestions here. I don't want a intake with dyson vacuum like strength but one powerful enough to pull in a miniscule piece of tissue, yes.


This is a pic I just took. I added the piece of tissue 3 days ago and it is still floating around.

My aquarium size is 125L

The tiny piece of tissue is just above the plants. I'll edit the pic if necessary to point it out. 3 days and the filter has not removed it

eheim 2217 great filter for that size tank and great quality you cant go far wrong with eheim

Another vote for the Eheim classic series here. Very reliable and long-lived also. Should last you 10-20 years with a little bit of care.

IMO, a 2215 would be fine for a 125 litre tank, unless you are stocking heavily or have particularly messy types of fish, in which case I would go with e 2217.

i said 2217 because it gives you more than the recomended 5x 125lts per hour more is always better in my experience

dont fully understand what you mean but they have an intake strainer like this

oh yeah for sure eheims are great filters that tissue would be long gone
