I have a pregnant molly that I believe also has dropsy of unknown cause. 10 gallon tank. Perfect water parameters. She's been in the corner of the tank swimming down with her tail up most of the day. A few days ago she delivered a few fry in their yolk sac. She's huge and her scales are all sticking out. What can I do to help her?

Hi, I had a female guppy like this years ago. She was pineconing and hanging about in corners ... after a few days I decided to put her out of her misery. I got 'the death jug' ready (I have seperate vessel that I keep under my kitchen sink with clove oil) and went to net her. As I netted her she dropped a fry ... and then another, and another and she just kept on going for several hours. I had to set up an emergency 'tank' using a storage box for all the fry. There were well over a hundred.

Once she'd stopped dropping fry she returned to normal, her scales went back to sitting flat and she lived on for several more months. And to think I was ready to euthanize her!

I would give the molly more time. I suspect she's in the same boat as my guppy was ... she's just got a lot of fry on board. You could try keeping the tank lights off to keep her calm ... even throwing a towel over it during the day if it's in a bright area of the home. See how she is in a few days :)
