Hi all,
need so real advice and not sure how to describe whats happened but i'm gonna try my best

Yesterday i was doing my evening feed when i noticed my pregnant female silver mollie was missing from the main community tank, so i started searching and found her wedged beneath a piece of bog wood.
i removed the piece of bogwood to free her and she moved but very slowly (not her usual speedy self) on close inspection her tail and one of her pectoral fins have been half eaten away and she was hardly able to swim.
i scooped her up in a jug and moved to her to my guppy tank(was hospital tank until the guppies started breeding!) and took a much better look at her and it appears she has grazes on her head and her eye looks very swollen (bit like pop eye?) it's almost like she's had a stroke, now i'm in a bit of a state as a. what was she doing down there in the first place, b. whats actually happened to her a c. what do i do for the best.
several people i have spoke to today have said to me to "put her out of her misery" another said "keep her going and see how she go's she may be OK in a day of two"

please help any suggestions welcome (as long as sensible)

few pics if you can see them as my cameras useless

The grazes on the head and swollen eyes could be due to being stuck in the bogwood.
She also could of damaged her swim bladder.

I would half dose some melafix.
Just hope the swim bladder not damaged.

How many gallons is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

well she's now up right and swimming a little,

the tank she was in is approx 560 litres (124ish gallons i believe) measurements are 48 inch x 30 inch x 24 inch which is my main community tank (home made).
fish :
2 silver dollars (not mature)
4 flying foxes (mature)
3 silver mollies
1 black marbled mollie
2 orange/red mollies
2 albino tiger barbs
2 black tiger barbs
2 male guppies (due to over breeding in guppie tank)
1 white cloud mm
2 common plecs
3 dojo loaches
1 balloon platie
2 siamese algae eaters
2 chinese algae eaters

tank stats
temp 27 c
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 11
ph 7.6

Tank current;y in as i moved her to safety is as follows
153 litres / 32 gallons 33 inch long x 11.5 inch wide x 24 high

current fish
3 glowlight tetra (not getting on with flying foxes in main tank)
2 adult female guppies
2 2 week old guppie fry
7 8 week old guppie fry
1 female BN plec
and obviously now 1 silver mollie slighty worse for wear

tank stats
temp 26 c
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 8
ph 7.7

have added aquarium salt to 2nd tank (which she's now in) and have been out and picked up some tetra aqua general tonic (but not added yet) to help her wounds haven't got local access to melafix at mo as lfs had none in stock hence the tetra product (which i have use previously to good effect)

How much salt have you added to the tank as plecs don't tolerate it towell.

about 1/4 t-spoon per gallon instead of 1 t-spoon as recommended (weather / dojo loaches don't do well with salt in higher doses either) and to be honest I've always used the same dose since i set the tank up over 18 months ago now and i re-salt once a month (or every 4 water changes which ever occurs sooner) never had any illness or loses from this tank and never used any meds other than salt and tap safe/dechlorinator.

As long as you know.
Good Luck.

just had a good look at her again and altho she's swimming about 2 inches off the bottom of the tank and eating (albeit just a little) her eye looks worse as in it's cloudier and the eye looks slightly detached at the top and i've also noticed her left (right when facing me and same side as damaged eye) gill all the scales look damaged, have added general tonic to the water but i think it's a case of time will tell and i think she's defo going to loose that eye :(

thanks for the help

Phil

Bless her.
If you are in the uk add some myxazin by waterlife to the tank.

well the eye looks no worse today and whatever was wrong with the gill is also looking a fair bit better as in the scales (or what ever it was) have gone back flat against her gill, the grazes on the head have gone back to silver (with a touch of black which must be like scabs on us after we cut our self). she's also swimming around more and following fingers across the glass (which she and her mate always used to do). i think for now i'll stick to the general tonic unless there is a specific need to use myxazin i'd rather not, i don't like using chemicals if i don't have to, altho i had considered removing BN pleco and adding more salt what do you think?
Thanks again
Phil

Ok. Sounding better.
I wouldn't add anymore salt. But it's your fish so it's up to you.
I would move the plec if you decide to add more salt.
Good Luck.
