Help Please

Could someone try and help me please?

My blue ram is sunk at the bottom of the tank on her side with rapid breathing and not moving much. This fish was spawning on Friday night and today looks on deaths door, the only thing that has changed was a water change on sunday which is the first water change for her in this tank.

Any help would be great please/

Test the water for pH, ammonia, Nitrites and Nitrates ASAP and post here

Don't know if its coincidence or a more common issue, but my Blue Rams i had 5 years ago were happy and healthy. They bred and failed by eating the eggs then a few days later my female was on her side with rapid breathing like yours. I lost mine, but i would suggest putting her in a small livebearer breeding trap where she can be nearer the surface and away from other pestering fish. Maintain good tank conditions (small water change every other day), perhaps increase the O2 in your tank (airstone maybe) or turn off CO2 injection for a bit if you have it.

I tested the water and perams were fine AM:0 ph:7.0 NI:0 NA:5

I increased the oxygen by raising the flow bar. She died in the night, then when i woke up there was one of my other rams doing the same, breathing normally but on its side; unable to swim correctly. I put it inside a net at the top of the tank with the light off.

Very strange that this is happening just after a 25% water change when 1 of the fish was spawning 2 days previously.

What temp are they kept in?

You may have got a bad batch, GBR's are notoriously delicate and ideally require acidic water with a low PH of between 5.5-6.5 and higher temp of 28-32

You will sometimes find that they can tolerate outside of these parameters slightly but won't thrive as they would in the correct conditions.

The temp is about 27-28oc. I presumed with them being in normal water then they must have been breed this way. If id known i could have placed them in a tank and lowered the ph

Sorry to hear that matey. Your situation sounds exactly the same as how mine went few years back. Personally it made me stear clear of them, but persistence and the experience from this time will only make it better in the future if you adapt I hope your other one comes around and you don't lose the two of them. Its gutting to lose a fish, no matter how big or small.
