you could always take a bucket or something and scoop out the food, only taking out a bit of water :/ .

(i would hide the food)

Is alot of the food resting on top of the gravel? If so, a gravel vac should help. If not, then is it because you've got an internal filter that's making it flow round the tank unable to settle? If this is the case then if it was me I'd turn the filter off for a few minutes to see if it will settle on the gravel before doing a gravel vac. If you don't want to do this (and I wouldn't recommend leaving the filter off for too long) you could always try to net out as much of the food as possible. Be careful not to stress out your fishies though.

Good luck.
