Thanks paradise. So much for listening to the recommendation from the guy in the LFS. They really dont care what they sell you.

When you say 'get rid' of them who do I give them to?

Could I keep them in the tank say for a year and transfer them to a bigger tank if I upgrade to a bigger one?

You wouldn't even be able to keep them that long unfortunately as they grow pretty quickly. I'd say either re-home them to someone you trust or on here or take them back to your LFS unfortunately. They won't be doing very good in the tank right now though.

Fully grown Black Widow Tetra's only get to 2.4 inch but they are highly active and therefore would need a 3ft long tank minimum really.
Fully grown Sailfin Molly are up to 6 inch long and active. I wouldn't keep one in my 30 inch 80l tank due to size and activity.

The female Betta isn't the problem here...

A single female is fine in a 17 gallon community tank.  All Tetras should be kept in groups of at least 6 and Black Widows aka Black Skirt Tetras need to be in a larger tank just like Sailfin Plecos, sorry.  Keep the Betta, it's like destined to be!  She ended up with you for a reason.  Add some smaller schooling fish if you want like Espei Rasboras and make sure you get at least 6-8 and you're all set.

They haven't got a Sailfin Pleco... :/

I never said a single female wouldn't be fine, that is not what I said. I said that if the OP chooses to get more they should make sure they make it a minimum of 5 females total not 3...
64l is not 17 gallons... It's 14 gallons...

I think Ruskull is working in US gallons which is 17 gallons (16.907 to be exact :p ).
The different gallons confuse me too....

Ah, that would be why lol. Yeah, I'm Imperial Gallons XD Though I'm slowly converting to Litres because it's easier - Once you get the hang of it XD

I meant Sailfin Molly, and my post wasn't directed at you.  Normally a Molly wouldn't be too bad in a 17 US gallon tank but Sailfin Mollies are larger than standard Mollies.

I know... I already said that lol. I know the post wasn't directed at me but it seems every reply apart from one has been to say "Keep the female alone" when it's really up to the OP whether they get more female betta's or not, right? :) It's their tank.

It's all good Paradise, just wanted to make sure the thread starter knew they didn't have to add females to the group.  I do agree that 3 is too few is they do decide to go the group route, since a larger group is needed to spread the aggression.  It's far too easy for the weakest one to get bullied by the stronger ones.

:D Yeah, I've always worked in litres so its hard trying to be in gallons. I haven't even attempted imperial, since US is the most commonly used here.
I still only have a general idea, for example, I know that 10 gallons is roughly 38L and that 20 gallons is roughly 75L. I'm getting there :p You will too!

Female bettas were my first fish!
I had a pair in my community and were absolutely fine until they died of natural causes 7 years later. Was I just lucky?

I know, I understand. It just sort of felt like the other people(I quoted you because you were the last one to post it  ) were saying "Do not keep them in a group at all" which the OP doesn't have to listen to, right? It is the OP's tank and if they decide to go for a group then they should be fine aslong as(like you say) they go for 5 not 3 :)
