Hello! I need to disinfect a tank that used to have guppies in it. Apparently they died of some sort of infection, so how do I disinfect the tank, the Elodea and the one tiny Ramshorn snail, so that it's safe to transfer my guppy fry to this tank?
Thanks!
~PK.

a strong salt water solution and hot water did the trick for my tank. The salt will kill off any freshwater bacteria/disease. I also heard that vinegar works great too

So can I boil some water, put salt and vinegar in it till no more will dissolve and scrub the tank with that? Thanks!
But what of the snail and the plants?

Or just a very strong solution of "aquarium salt" mixture will work too. That stuff hates salt because it kills them haha

I didn't realize about the snails and the plants. In that case I would simply take some aquarium water and put the snail in it while the tank is being cleaned with hot water and salt and then put everything back in after rinsung thoroughly but someone with more experience will have to help you with the snail and plants as I am unsure of how they will react to the salt.

vinegar, lemon juice and hot water is what I tend to go for, you can use bleach solutions, then rinse out with vinegar and water, then water, then leave to dry to be sure that everything is killed off!
